General Assembly
Community of Latin American and Caribbean States
Committee Introduction
Welcome to CELAC. CELAC is an outstanding committee that discusses how to solve problems in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was founded in 2011 as the replacement for the Latin American and Caribbean Summit on Integration and Development. Its motto is “Unity within Diversity”. Delegates such as yourself will discuss topics ranging from growing tourism as a source of income, while managing cultural preservation, to the security of biodiversity. You will now get to represent a nation, and do what you can to make your nation as well as those in your committee the best in the world.
Topic A:
Protecting Biodiversity
Balancing the growth of tourism and cultural preservation

Director
Isa is so excited to be Director of CELAC this year! She is a cheerleader for Bellarmine,
as well as president of Feminists at Bellarmine and Service club. Isa also is a part of
theater - she loves to do musicals and sing, as well as a little bit of dancing. When she
isn’t busy, she enjoys hanging out with friends and watching every movie she can. Isa
started doing Model UN in seventh grade and has loved it ever since - this is her first
time as director and she can’t wait to make the whole experience worthwhile!!

Jonathon is so excited to be the assistant director at CELAC this year! At Bellarmine, Jonathon is involved in chess club, knowledge bowl, DECA, and soccer. Outside of school, he loves reading, hanging out with friends as well as playing board games and playing sports. Chair
Arshan Aref is a senior in high school and is excited to serve as the Chair of CELAC for BellarMUN. Arshan’s Model UN journey began in the classroom in 8th grade, where he first learned about international politics and how the United Nation operates. At his first MUN conference he was a quiet and nervous delegate who did whatever he could to avoid raising his placard. Over time, however, he grew to love MUN, and developed confidence through learning how to research, debate, and collaborate with fellow delegates, eventually discovering a strong passion for history, and global affairs. Outside of Model UN, Arshan is involved in many extracurriculars from leading diversity clubs to volunteering in his local community. Arshan is grateful for the opportunity to chair CELAC this year and hopes to create an engaging committee environment that encourages thoughtful debate, confidence in public speaking, and helps delegates find the same passion for Model UN that he did.

Nessa hopes BELLARMUN 2026 is a great experience.
